Why People Help Others – Rewards Returned
The reason why people help others is usually because they have caring compassionate spirits.
The personal rewards they reap are immense but that is not why they help those who need it.
A lady was walking down the street in a restaurant uniform on a very hot day.
No one stopped to offer her a ride in the intense heat by the busy four-lane dusty highway.
A woman was standing at the corner with a sign that said, “Homeless, pregnant and hungry. Any $$ will help.”
A few people gave her a few dollars including me.
We become skeptical and wonder if she is homeless, pregnant or hungry. We wonder if people beg because they do not want to work. We are resistant to offering someone a meal or in buying them a drink too often.
The questions fill our minds. Is she an alcoholic or will she buy drugs? We are fearful to allow anyone near our beautiful cars.
Fear is important when it comes to personal safety. At times, much of the time, I believe we must take a few risks and reach out to others.
Why people help others is most often because they have a spirit of care and compassion. They are not expecting a return. What a beautiful surprise when someone does something kind for us when we don’t expect it; it feels great!
The rewards that are returned in helping someone are immense.
A friend rolled down the window of her stylish car and asked a woman walking – in a questionable part of town – directions to where she wanted to go. The lady told her and then asked for a ride. The driver allowed her in and took her where she wanted to go. She was driving by the area anyway but was worried about personal safety. She also told me that she felt guilty about having a nice car because the lady who gave her directions probably did not have any car.
It came to my attention that we often miss a blessing when we are so distrustful; when we choose not to help someone in need.
We must listen with our hearts and watch with our eyes. We may be entertaining angels and not be aware of who they are standing in front of us. There is a balance and we must find it. Give more than you ever imagined you could through your heart and spirit. Loving, kind words become rich to the soul and gold to the receiver.
I think we should be cautious but offer assistance to people now and then. We miss giving them a blessing and we miss one ourselves. We cannot bloom if we are always selfish and unbending. We cannot blossom when our hearts stay tightly locked up. We cannot recklessly take too many risks but there are times when I wish I had done something more. I regret those times of lack of compassion. I think the spirit speaks to us when we listen and gives us opportunities for amazing reward. Helping someone makes our hearts grow and bloom. Do more. Be more. bloom on….
